Performance Awards
· Students from current member stations are eligible.
Member stations must have their membership
dues current for eligibility
· The faculty advisor will be responsible for selecting the
station's entries if they have more than the
limit. Limits are included in the description of each entry category
(page 2).
· Students are limited to one entry per category
· All entries must be submitted on a separate cassette tape or
CD with the following on the label:

· Awards will be presented at the annual MAEB Honors Night.
Tapes will be returned following the event.
· Awards:
Gold
Mic - Superior Performance
Silver
Mic - Very Good Performance
Bronze
Mic - Good Performance
· There is no limit to the number of awards per classification.
For instance, there could be five Gold, three Silver and no Bronze awards
in Newscasting.
· Entries that do not meet a minimum standard will receive no
award.
Entry
Categories
1.
Disc Jockey:
Actual performance over the air (air check).
Three minute time limit. Skimming
is recommended. Stations are
limited to six entries.
2.
Production:
One Public Service Announcement, Promo or other audio production written and produced by a student. Minimum
30 seconds, maximum three-and-a-half minute. Stations are limited to eight
entries.
3.
News/Sportscast:
Actual on-the-air newscast, no more than five minutes in length. Stations are
limited to six entries.
4.
Sports Broadcasting:
Actual on-the-air play-by-play broadcast of a sports event.
Maximum three minutes in length.
Edit to one person per tape entry. Stations
are limited to four
entries.
5.
Interviewing:
One entire live or pre-recorded interview, or excerpts from several interviews.
6.
Talk Show:
Actual
on the air Talk Show broadcast. Must include open, break, and close. Should be
edited to 15 minutes. Stations are limited to 4 entries.
7.
MAEB Promo:
Promotional announcement about the MAEB. Promo must be exactly 30 or 60
seconds.
Michigan
Association of Educational Broadcasters
Carl
V. Jacobson has contributed in many ways to educational broadcasting in the
state for over 40 years as WSAE-FM, KTGG-AM Station Manager, broadcasting
educator, M.A.E.B Charter Member and M.A.E.B. Treasurer for 23 years
(1977-2000).
Awards
will be given to those who have made an outstanding achievement in educational
broadcasting in Michigan. Award
entries may be made in the following categories:
1.
Small
Group. Entrants from one M.A.E.B.
member station.
2.
Entire
Station. Entry from one M.A.E.B.
member station.
Entries
may be submitted by either students or staff highlighting an exemplary
achievement done on-air or off-air without monetary gain.
Each member station is limited to one submission.
Entries must be 500 words or less and may include photos and press
articles as supporting documents.
All entries will be judged by Carl V. Jacobson and two other judges as selected by him. Judges have the option to decide how many “Jakes” are awarded each year ranging from none to multiple winners.
Entry Deadline is Thursday February 28, 2008 at 9pm
